What is Hygiene+?

Hygiene+ is a paper-based disposable sanitary waste bin for workplace washrooms, designed as a hygienic, no-contract alternative to serviced sanitary bin collections.

Who is Hygiene+ for?

It is best suited to low-volume workplace washrooms such as small offices, clinics, salons, cafés, retail units, schools, gyms and construction welfare units, in male, female and gender-neutral washrooms.

Is Hygiene+ an alternative to a sanitary bin service contract?

Yes. Hygiene+ lets businesses buy bins as needed instead of paying for scheduled sanitary bin servicing. It is particularly suitable where bins are often lightly used or serviced before they are full.

Do I legally need a sanitary bin?

Workplace washrooms should provide a suitable, hygienic way for users to dispose of sanitary and personal hygiene waste. The law does not usually prescribe a specific service provider or bin type, so businesses can choose an appropriate solution for their site.

Can sanitary waste go in general waste?

For many low-volume workplaces, sealed municipal sanitary waste may be placed in mixed municipal waste where less than 7kg and no more than one bag is produced during the collection period, subject to the waste contractor accepting this route. Higher volumes must be segregated. Customers should confirm their site-specific arrangements with their waste contractor.

What is the 7kg threshold?

The 7kg figure concerns the total municipal offensive waste generated across the site during a collection period. It is not the capacity or maximum fill weight of an individual Hygiene+ bin, and the “no more than one bag” condition applies alongside it.

What waste code applies to sanitary waste?

Separately collected municipal sanitary and hygiene waste may be classified under EWC 20 01 99. Smaller quantities placed in mixed municipal waste may fall under EWC 20 03 01. EWC 18 01 04 relates to healthcare offensive waste and should not be treated as the universal code for offices, retail, construction welfare or other ordinary workplace washrooms.

How do I dispose of a full Hygiene+ bin?

When full, use the permanent seal and place the bin into the waste route agreed for your site, based on the guidance above and confirmed with your waste contractor.

Does it control odour?

The built-in Bio-matt™ helps absorb moisture and reduce odour in the base of the bin. The temporary seal also helps keep the bin discreet between uses.

Does it leak?

Hygiene+ is a leakproof and waterproof paper construction, with the built-in absorbent Bio-matt™ helping to contain moisture. The bin is designed for sanitary waste and personal hygiene waste, not free liquids.

How long can a bin stay in place?

This depends on usage, site policy and hygiene checks. Replace the bin when full, damaged, wet externally, or when your site's cleaning schedule requires it. We do not publish a maximum fill weight.

Is it suitable for male washrooms?

Yes. Hygiene+ is suitable for male, female and gender-neutral washrooms, including spaces where incontinence products or other personal hygiene waste may need discreet disposal.

Is it suitable for construction welfare units?

Yes. It is flat-packed, easy to store, easy to place in welfare units, and does not require a dedicated sanitary bin servicing visit.
